The Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana), sometimes called an antelope, is North America's fastest mammal and is one of the fastest animals in the world. It has been clocked at 70 miles per hour, and can easily maintain a speed of 30 miles per hour.
Their leaps can reach 20 feet and they are able to outdistance all their natural enemies.
They are about 4 to 4-1/2 feet long and are about 3 feet at the shoulder. They are the only existing member of the family Antilocapridae.
Their forked horns are shed and renewed annually. The white hairs on the rump stand erect when the animal is in its danger mode or courtship mode. Females breed in September-October and, after a gestation of 7 months, produce one to two offspring. The lifespan of the Pronghorn is 7 to 10 years.
