This is a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Bred in Ireland as an all-purpose farm dog and companion dog, the Wheaten is related also to the Irish Terrier and the Kerry Blue. What sets the Wheaten apart is his wonderful soft coat with its coloring from pale beige to gold.

This is a jovial, fun-loving dog whose merry disposition makes him a wonderful dog, especially with children. When company arrives keep your Wheaten under control or he will want to jump and kiss all arrivals. They make good watch dogs, too.

To ensure safety, consider keeping your Wheaten in a fenced yard and always use a lead when you take him on his walk. To keep his coat mat free and shining, make sure he has a regular grooming schedule. In order to keep his jubilant personality under control, make sure he gets gentle but firm and consistent training.

Wheatens have a lifespan of 12 years or more.

The little Wheaten shown above is made by Douglas Cuddle Toys.
