The origin of this dog is in Scotland in the 1700s. It was first known as the Aberdeen terrier, named for the town in which it was raised. This small dog is about 10 to 11 inches high and weighs around 20 pounds. You'll find these little Scotties in black, brindle and wheat colors.
This little animal is lively and intelligent and affectionate with its master's family, but it is indifferent to strangers. It is good with children.
It was at one time used as a hunting dog, chasing foxes, badgers, otters and rabbits. Scotties are good companion dogs.
The Scottie shown at left is Barney, President George W. Bush's little dog.
