Pedigree Puppy St. Bernard from Russ, and the big guy at right is Mozart B. Barken from Boyds. The front row includes from left: Emerson the St. Bernard from Russ, Bernie, a St. Bernard Beanie Baby made by Ty Inc., then Bandit a St. Bernard made by Russ Berrie, and behind Bandit is Nardie, a St. Bernard from the Coca-Cola International Series representing the country of Switzerland. and at far right is a Soft Spot St. Bernard by Ganz.
The little Saint Bernard at bottom left is the Webkinz Saint Bernard from Ganz, which is now retired. Owning this pet gives you access to Webkinz World, a wonderful virtual world of fun and games.
The Saint Bernard is the breed that is famous for helping people in distress. It is descended from the Tibetan mastiff. The monks of the Hospice of St. Bernard de Menthon were the first to call it a Saint Bernard. It is believed that the monks crossed the mastiff with the Great Pyrenees and the Great Dane. The Saint Bernard was used as a rescue dog. St. Bernards are very good wih people and make wonderful companion dogs.
St. Bernards are very large dogs. The height is about 27 inches and the weight around 115 pounds. There are rough and smooth coated types of this breed.
