There are three types of poodles: Standard, Miniature and Toy. The Poodle was first used by wildfowlers for retrieving game from water, but since it is very intelligent and fun-loving, it has played many roles since then.
Poodles can be any solid color, though they are usually black, white or dark brown. Pink ones are very rare. They are descended from the French water dog, the barbet, which is now almost extinct.
Poodles make good companion dogs and are good with children.
