The Pomeranian is a small dog, 10 inches tall and only weighing 7 pounds. It originated in Germany and was developed in Prussia in the region of Pomerania. Its thick, long hair comes in several colors, including white, red, orange black or gray. It is double coated. The undercoat is soft and fluffy but the outer coat is long and harsh and needs brushing to avoid mats.

This is a happy, active dog that was at one time used as a watchdog, considering its tendency to bark at strangers, but today it is mostly a companion dog. It can be stubborn and needs early training. It is suitable for all types of homes including apartments, houses and country or city dwelling.

Pomeranians have a 12 to16 year life expectancy.
