The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy spaniel, whose characteristics include a friendly nature and free action. This little dog is both fearless and sporting in character, and at the same time gentle and affectionate. The breed has an elegant and royal appearance.

The standard size is from 12 to 13 inches at the withers and a weight of about 13 to 18 pounds. This may be a small dog but it is well balanced. An important breed characteristic is the sweet, gentle, melting expression. The eyes are large and round and dark brown. The rims are dark.
