The Doberman pinscher has an interesting history. It seems they are named after a man who bred them for a guard dog. His name was Louis Dobermann.
The Doberman is a mixture of many dogs: Great Danes, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and pinschers. Mr. Dobermann traveled a great deal in dangerous areas and wanted a dog who could handle any situation.
The Doberman is about 27 inches high and weighs around 70 pounds. To this day the Doberman is an excellent watchdog and guard dog.
