This little fox is found in the Sahara Desert of Northern Africa. It is called a Fennec Fox and is the smallest of all foxes and the lightest in color. It is about 13 inches long and 10 inches tall. It weighs about 3 pounds. Its very large ears are about 6 inches long. It is rarely seen.
Being a desert dweller, this little fox has specially adapted feet which are densely furred making it possible for them to run across the sand. They can also go for long periods of time without water.
They are nocturnal, like many other desert creatures, and they prey on insects, rodents, lizards, birds and their eggs. They live in underground dens. They also live in small groups of up to 10.
Fennecs are monogamous and their offspring, usually 2 to 5, are born from February to March after a 50 day gestation. The cubs are weaned in about 70 days and remain with the family until their first birthday.
