


You'd think the squirrels were rabbits the way they are multiplying. This group includes from left, Chester P Nut from Bearington, Russ Yomiko Squirrel, and two Hansa Plush squirrels.
In this group you'll see a grey and black squirrel from the Stuffed Animal House, Nutlee the Squirrel made by Douglas, and three little squirrels made by Wild Republic. The two at right make squirrel sounds when squeezed.
This little group includes, from left, Nutty the Squirrel made by Aurora, a Ganz Woodland Wildlife squirrel with jointed legs, Kokonut the Squirrel made by UNIPAK, tiny little Baby Hazel the Cushy Critter from Purr-fection , Chutney the Squirrel from Purr-fection, Baby Chester from Purr-fection, another Woodland Wildlife Squirrel from Ganz (different style) and at right we have another squirrel made by UNIPAK.

This little group of squirrels belongs to Jeannie's Cottage but they are not for sale. We have, from left, Grabby Nutcruncher from Boyds, Merle B. Squirrel from Boyds, Nutty the Puffkin from Swibco, Nuts the Beanie Baby Squirrel from Ty, Nutty another Beanie Baby from Ty and Buck the Attic Treasure,
also made by Ty. All of these squirrels are retired.
The squirrel family (Sciuridae) includes some 273 species. There are 66 species in the United States and Canada. They include the ground squirrels, tree squirrels, flying and antelope squirrels and chipmunks, marmots and prairie dogs.
The name sciuridae means "shadetail" and refers to the generally large bushy tail that many squirrels have. Of the tree squirrels, this group includes the gray, red and flying squirrels.
Squirrels feed on nuts, seeds, insects and fruits.
Some tree squirrels have litters twice per year and others just one. The litter usually consists of from 3 to 5 young. The gestation period is around 40 to 45 days.The squirrels build large leafy nests high in trees. The Western Gray Squirrel builds a nest with bark and sticks. Tree squirrels prefer woodlands but are found all over in neighborhoods and parks.
