Spiders are not insects at all, but rather arachnids. They have 8 rather than 6 legs. The spider shown above is a Tarantula. They have a hairy body. These large spiders have legs close to 6 inches long. The bite of the North American tarantula is no more dangerous than that of a bee. These spiders are nocturnal and the female may live up to 35 years in captivity.
