Vultures are members of the Cathartidae family. The Beanie Baby (Ty Inc.) shown below is Buzzy. Buzzy is a Buzzard, which is another name for vulture. Buzzy looks alot like a Black Vulture, which is pictured. The Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus) is found in North America from New Jersey southwestward to Texas. It is also found in Mexico, Central and South America. This is a large black bird (24 inches) with a 4-1/2 foot wingspan; white patches near wing tips. There are no feathers on the head, which is light grey. Vultures are bald. It is believed this prevents their feathers from becoming fouled from the carrion they eat.

Vultures are scavengers and they prefer open country. They will feed on carrion and will also frequent garbage dumps looking for something to eat.

These birds lay their eggs on a cliff ledge or a cave. Two pale grey-green eggs blotched with brown are incubated for from 32 to 39 days.

Hansa Plush's vulture is 15 inches tall and very realistic.

The little vulture at right is Buzzy the Beanie Baby vulture.
